How to Apply for First-Year and Transfer Students

International students applying for first-year or transfer admission to the University of Dayton must submit the following documents:

Students may apply through the University of Dayton Application or the Common Application. There is no application fee.


Transcripts of all previously attended secondary schools, including dates of attendance, all subjects studied, grades earned and marks achieved on examinations:

  • Transcripts not issued in English should be accompanied by a certified English translation.
  • Proof of completion must also be provided in the form of a graduation date listed on the transcript, a diploma, or a certificate of completion. If secondary schooling is still in progress, this must be submitted as soon as completed and prior to enrollment at the University of Dayton.
  • Transcripts may be submitted directly from the secondary school to the University of Dayton via:

Applicants who have taken undergraduate coursework at institutions outside of the United States are required to submit an official evaluation of their college transcripts. The evaluation must be a divisional course analysis completed by SpanTran.

Students whose native language is not English, are required to submit proof of English proficiency. Please visit the English Proficiency Options page to learn more about testing options and requirements. 

All English test scores should be sent to the University of Dayton directly from the testing center using code 1834 or for the ACT, code 3342.

NOTE: The option for conditional admission is available to students who want to attend the Intensive English Program at UD before starting their undergraduate studies.

F-1 and J-1 students must provide financial documentation showing sufficient funds to cover the first year of study. Acceptible forms of financial documentation can be found in the Affidavit of Financial Support located in the student admission portal. The Affidavit of Financial Support along with relevant documentation must be uploaded to the student application checklist.

  • Financial Documents must be less than six months old.
  • Students sponsored by an individual, such as a parent, must submit an official bank statement and letter of financial support along with their Affidavit of Financial Support. The name on the bank statement and the letter of financial support must match.
  • Financial documents should be submitted in the currency of a student's home country and equal to the necessary amount in USD.
  • Students who are being sponsored by their country's government or embassy must submit the official financial guarantee letter.

Application Deadlines

The University of Dayton's calendar year is divided into three terms. Application deadlines for international students are:

  • Fall term (August through December) — May 1
  • Spring term (January through April) — November 1

Should you be unable to attend a specific term, please return to your admission portal to submit a new application for a future term.

Evaluation

  • Once your application is complete, the evaluation and review process takes approximately 4 weeks (certain programs may have a longer evaluation and review process).
  • Official decision letters, immigration documents, and instructions for confirming your enrollment will be sent via email to the email address used on the admission application.
  • You can check your status at any time in your Admission Account to see what documents we have received and what is still needed to complete your application. Please allow 6-8 weeks for documents to be processed.
